GREATEST WHITE DIAMOND EVER SOLD

Greatest White Diamond Ever to Appear at Auction sold for a record $30,6 millionat Sotheby’s Hong Kong.

Stunning 118.28 carat, D Colour, Flawless, Type IIA Magnificent Oval diamond was part of Sotheby’sMagnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale, held on October 7th. It turns that’s $259,322 per carat. The previous record for a white diamond was $26.7 million and was set in May at Christie’s in Geneva.

This stone, pure and perfect, is one of the largest: it had a rough weight of 299 carats and was discovered in 2011 from the deep mines in Southern Africa. It is the largest D colour Flawless diamond ever to appear at auction, as well as the largest oval shaped, D colour Flawless or Internally Flawless diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

The auction’s other highlight, 7.59 carat fancy vivid blue diamond known as The Premier Blue which had an estimate of $19 million, failed to reach its reserve price. The highest bid for this diamond was $16.12 million. The two gems were among 330 lots of rare jewelry that fetched a total of $95 million, $15 millionless than expected.

We can’t wait to see what will happen in November, when Sotheby’s puts a Pink Star – 59.60 carat diamond on the block that’s expected to fetch more than$60 million in Geneva. It could be the price record for any gem sold at auction.
