80.000 dollars tea service

Kengo Kuma's recently created a precious tea service for the brand Georg Jensen, which is a true masterpiece of delicate arts...

This exclusive service and ornament bears the name Kusa, a Japanese word for grass and represents a modern approach to traditional services in the vision of the designer.

Coffee and tea services are always associated with Japan and Japanese culture, and this design venture represents a unique tribute to this mystical and above all the beautiful country, where tradition and history are of crucial importance.

Created primarily for sado ceremony with tea, this set comes with a cha-ire box of tea, chasen whisk, chashaku tea spoon, Chawan bowl of tea and a tray. Kuma used bamboo, a favorite Asian material to create a stirrer, while the circular tray is made of hand-carved silver. Cups and teapot are made of silver with contrasting reflective detailing on the inside and dark oxidized silver in the form of slats on the outside.

CEO of the brand, David Chu, who takes his job very seriously, as we can infer from his collaboration with numerous designers, aimed at transforming "outdated" Georg Jensen image, through artistic and creative ideas and approaches.

Reference to names such as Patricia Urquiola and passed architect Zaha Hadid, Kuma, who was chosen as the chief designer of the Japanese main stage for the Olympics in 2020, is the first Asian designer who has collaborated with Georg Jensen brand.
