Living ceramic nature

Vladimir Kanevsky was a young architect in the rise of his career during the Soviet Union...

When he was in his late thirties, he moved to New York, where there was no more need for his skills. Without connections and no experience he has entered into a deal that could bring him money to survive in this metropolis. Vladimir began making porcelain flowers. He makes beautiful illusions with intriguing floral sculptures. His colorful bouquets containing roses, hyacinths and peonies look incredibly realistic, but are actually made of porcelain clay.

The Ukrainian - American artist has developed his art in a special technique of "trompe-l'oeil" style of painting that attaches exceptional attention to detail and the laws of perspective, awakening the nature of the case, as to deceive the eye of the beholder laying motive in three-dimensional, alive and well tangible manner.

In order to produce these pieces, Kanevski first makes them out of copper and then uses adapted techniques to form petals and green areas that mimic natural textures and shapes. After that, the artist hand-paints porcelain and arranges it in the vase where it will forever entertain, illuminate and embellish the room. Vladimir’s flowers came to Europe and some of his prominent works have arrived to the royal collection. When he was nearly fifty years old, he made several works for the House of Dior.

His meticulous design is also observed and received high praise from Oscar de la Renta and Alberta Pinto. Vladimir has gradually found a balance between his work, making the ceramic flower for money, and his passion that had guided him towards the design and sculpture. Now, he said, he believes his porcelain works are a form of art, while these beautiful flowers varies in prices of 3000 $, up to 20000 $ for a big bouquet of Syringa vulgaris.
