SHRIMP ARMCHAIR - Design for urban space

Holidays are considered the best period of the year. COR has made special furniture for relaxing during the holiday season...

"Shrimp" is a new chair, which the Stuttgart based designers Jehs + Laub created for the German manufacturer COR. The chair is characterized by a structure made from 2D plywood, which could be bent into the appropriate shape, thanks to the evenly spaced gaps.

"Everyone should understand the idea and feel at ease," is how the designer duo Jehs+Laub describe their rotating lounge chair SHRIMP. Its typical contours emerge from a spring-loaded, shaped wooden shell with side indentations similar to that of a crustacean.

The design impresses both aesthetically and functionally. The back, head and arms are pleasantly supported as you slide deeper into the soft interior. When combined, the easy chair and stool form a comfortable surface on which to stretch out. Fancy finishes in wood for the shell and leather or fabric for the seat underline the lounge character of the easy chair and emphasise the contrast between the exterior and interior. A completely covered shell and variants in lacquer for the frame are also available.

Design of "Shrimp" chair is the winner of "Interior Innovation Award 2011" at the IMM fair in Cologne.
