FUR PLAY by Sacha Walckhoff

Metal and fur – a collection born from the desire to juxtapose two incredibly sensual materials that are fundamentally opposite.

Fur in “geometric forms", malleable metal, playing with hot and cold… Sacha Walckhoff used opposing textures to tame each other, bringing them together to create pieces that lie half-way between sculpture and furniture.

Heat blued steel responds to the warmth of the astrakhan hues which are brushed for texture, and the brass of the spheres is polished to give each piece a brilliant golden shine.

The exceptional savoir-faire of the Pouenat* metal artists and the Terzakou furrier collaborated with Walckhoff to bring shape, volume and equilibrium to the Desk, Cube and Easy Chair.

Without allowing for one material to overpower another, the final result was a collection of 'fur play'!

FUR PLAY by Sacha Walckhoff, Designer.

Sacha Walckhoff, Designer of his time

Sacha Walckhoff was born in France in 1962, but spent most of his childhood in Switzerland. After studying at the School of Barcelona Arts and Fashion Techniques, he first worked in various Prêt-à-Porter fashion houses — including Jean Rémy Daumas, Dorothée Bis, and Michel Klein in 1992. That same year, he met Christian Lacroix and became his artistic consultant; their collaboration was to last for seventeen years. Initially in charge of the Prêt-à-Porter lines, he was then appointed Studio Director in 1996, and became the couturier’s right-hand man in 2002, when he created his own company. At the same time, he was also a consultant for Kenzo and Jean-Claude Jitrois, between 2000 and 2002.

When the couturier left the House of Christian Lacroix in 2009, Sacha Walckhoff was appointed Creative Director. Since 2010, he has been the designer for the men’s Prêt-à-Porter collections, the eyewear and sunglasses lines, scarves, and leather goods, as well as the home décor line.

Passionate about art, design and decoration, Sacha’s own apartment in Paris – a unique space and veritable Cabinet of Curiosities – has been featured in many international interior design magazines.

Alongside his activities for Maison Christian Lacroix, he hopes to also engage in some personal projects. In January, he will launch his first personal design project, a collaboration with porcelain brand, Vista Allegre, entitled “Minotaures”.

In the sixties, they expanded into interior design and decorative arrangement of metals.

The takeover of POUENAT by Jacques Rayet in 1995 marked an important turning point. Already creating their own work in their studios, under Rayet POUENAT started to release lighting and objects produced by famous designers-architects, which led to Success and international establishment.

POUENAT is one of the few ‘artistic’ producers in the profession of iron craft. Today it employs twenty-five skilled craftsmen and collaborators, still in Moulins. A great renaissance, recognised in France and abroad.

In 2009, the “Living Heritage Company” (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, or EPV), awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment confirmed the excellence and rarity of POUENAT’s Knowledge.

Galerie Gosserez

Founded in 2010 and specialised in the creation of contemporary design furniture, Gallery Gosserez showroom is located in Paris, very close to the Picasso Museum and a short walk from Place des Vosges.

Marie-Bérangère Gosserez is the director and founder of the gallery that she created after spending more than 10 years on the parisian scene of decorative arts. She had notably been an antique dealer at Les Puces flea market, then coordinator for international customers at Christie’s Paris auction house, and finally an auctioneer in 2005.

It is very much her “eye” and her subjective choice that give her collections of furniture design pieces and objects a truly unique personality. Thanks to the work of her director, Gallery Gosserez rapidly became an emblematic showroom for a new generation of talented international designers, such as Valentin Loellmann, Elise Gabriel, Piergil Fourquié or Grégoire de Lafforest whilst also opening its exhibition space to well-known signatures like Eric Jourdan.

Gallery Gosserez immediately imposed itself as a must-visit showroom for an international audience of home decorators, collectors, well informed amateurs and lovers of beautiful furniture, all of whom are welcomed in a beautiful two-level showroom and its typical vaulted basement.

Putting her feet in the 100 years of functional and decorative tradition of furniture design, Gallery Gosserez has the avowed ambition to renovate its codes and practice with its original editions of pieces of design furniture and objects.

The collections are mostly edited and produced directly by the Gallery, or shown and distributed in exclusivity. They create an elegant and refined universe, which unique character becomes more obvious with successive exhibitions.
