SAN GAIETA – PALMA DE MALLORCA
Built in the sixteenth century by a pirate from Genoa, this palace located in the historic center of Palma de Mallorca was partially burned by an arson, whose goal was to scare his rude owner, an Italian corsair who was not at all well seen in the city.
Over the years, the building has been renovated several times to be then purchased by Teresa Sapey in 2016.
San Gaieta is located in the Lonja area in the city of Palma, in the heart of the capital and in the luxury shopping area called «la milla de oro» (the Golden Mile).
The building has been completely redesigned in order to reflect the personality of Teresa Sapey, recreating a completely customized space. The architect decided to join the wing of the house reserved for nobility with that intended for servants and at the same time to maintain the traditional elements of the building, in particular the windows and the 5 meters high ceilings, emblem of royal architectural styles of past centuries.
The walls of the building have been repainted with strong and bright colors, a bold choice for a 16th century building but which has best reflected the creative soul of the architect, who dreamed of being an artist since she was a child.
Until that time, Teresa Sapey had never been so much encouraged to express her most vivid and pictorial side but that in the case of San Gaieta, emerged in the explosive use of colors.
The house of San Gaieta is a tribute to the magical island of Majorca and its Mediterranean colors: the acid yellow of lemons and the warmer one of the sun; the blue, not only of the sea, but also of the sky. Green is also present, in an attempt to create a kind of greenhouse with Romanesque windows in the background.
Decoration items were designed and produced ad hoc by Teresa Sapey and her team, as well as for the murals.
Specialized in architecture and emotional design, Teresa Sapey highlights the curiosity which has developed over the years for the design of energetic spaces, for graphic creation and product design.
The aim of all her projects? Design to emotion. To create a space in order to arouse feelings. The colour plays with lights, shapes, art and also with the function of the space itself.
From non-spaces to fashion store, from hotel to luxury apartments, the colour breaks with all traditions and become freedom of expression. This is how an alchemist turns the metal into gold, she mixes, creates and transforms shapes and colours and any space fills with emotions.
Every space is imbued with Color Sapey.
