STOCKHOLM - Ice Queen's homeland

The Kingdom of Sweden is a magnificent country, full of wondrous natural beauty...

Its capital city is Stockholm and is located in the eastern part of the country, near mystical Baltic Sea. It is the political, cultural and economic center of the country and in recent times it has become a very popular destination among tourists around the world. It is a beautiful winter wonderland, but it is very nice in the summer. This city has a very long history, since it was first mentioned in 1252, although it is known to be a lot older than that. It became the capital of Sweden in 1436, and in it in 1523 the first King of Sweden was crowned there.

As we have already said, this city has become a very popular tourist destination, and it contains enough sights and the right dose of mysticism which attracts an increasing number of people each year. One of the places you absolutely must visit the Vasamuseet or Vasa Museum. It is the most popular museum in this country, and is known for its famous warship Vasa that sank on its maiden voyage. This warship was 69 feet long, and was pulled from the water in 1961. This museum has visits of just over a million people annually, a nine settings is dedicated just to this board.

The Royal Palace in Stockholm is one of the largest palaces in Europe and it is the official residence of the Swedish king. It contains more than 600 rooms; most of it was built during the 18th century in the Italian Baroque style. Visitors can see Rikssalen (Hall of the State) with a silver throne of Queen Christina, Ordenssalarna (Halls order horsemen), the Museum of Antiquities of Gustav III, and more. Speaking about the architecture of Stockholm City Hall, it is the most beautiful building in Sweden. Its construction began back in 1911, by the design of Ragnar Östberg. Its interior is magnificent and richly decorated, particularly the golden hall with gold and glass mosaics. Beside that room, the Blue Hall, which is actually red, is the place where the reception is held on the occasion of the award of the Nobel Prize.

As we have already said, the nature of Sweden's something wonderful and magical, and the Royal National City Park is proof of that. It is very long and stretches through the city, where, leaning against the neighboring woods, so you can meet deer, hares, foxes and even moose. Within this pristine and untouched nature a museum, amusement parks and numerous monuments can be seen, as well as many lakes and much more.

SkyView is a special attraction of this city, which offers visitors the possibility to climb to the top of the highest sphere of the world. It is 130 meters high, and there are no words that could describe the view of the city this place provides. For photography lovers, there is the Fotografiska - one of the largest meeting points of contemporary photography. Here are organized four major exhibitions a year and twenty small ones.
