As evidence of this, Louis-Victor, one of the two founders, gave his daughter Mélina a gold pocket watch in 1869. This was a very original gift, as at the time only a few noble or upper merchant class women wore watches as jewelry. Indeed, the gift was a precedent to a revolution in watchmaking art: a revolution that would carry along William Baume and Paul Mercier, who in 1918 began creating refined and very original collections of ladies' watches.
