Forget traditional showroom pieces — Mercedes-AMG and the provocative Brooklyn-based collective MSCHF have teamed up to create a limited-edition furniture line that transforms automotive engineering into functional art. Titled Not for Automotive Use, the name may sound like a warning, but it’s actually an invitation to question design boundaries. This unconventional collection fuses the high-performance precision of Mercedes-AMG with MSCHF’s playful, subversive spirit — delivering pieces you’ll want in your living room as much as you’d want an AMG engine under the hood.
Unveiled at MSCHF’s Greenpoint studio in New York — open to the public for the first time — the collection consists of eleven unique pieces that turn AMG parts into radical interior showstoppers. Picture a sofa with working headlights in the armrests, a lamp that switches on by buckling a seatbelt, or a grill made from a Mercedes front grille, complete with moving valves and a removable cooking rack. There’s even the WHEEL FAN — a floor fan built from an original Interlagos wheel, offering precise speed control with an unmistakable luxe edge.
One of the most eye-catching designs is a chair made from three AMG headrests, with a center piece bearing the AMG crest and vertically adjustable support. Industrial at first glance, yet surprisingly comfortable. Other standout items include side tables held together with tensioned red seatbelts and shelving systems where safety belts serve both structural and aesthetic functions.
Kevin Wiesner, creative lead at MSCHF, revealed that the concept began with “a pile of car parts” reimagined with entirely new context and functionality. The collection also includes a limited capsule of apparel featuring high-detail AMG mechanical prints, and a scented tree-shaped air freshener — a cheeky nod to the name Affalterbach, AMG’s birthplace, meaning "apple tree by the stream."
Every piece in the collection is made to order, targeting collectors who crave the intersection of design, art, and car culture — without compromise.
