MILAN 2013: INTERIORS OF TOMORROW

“Milan: interiors of tomorrow” is the new headline fronting the upcoming 52nd edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile...

Milan’s central location as the base for a project in which international ideas and the industrial sector come together to create cutting edge, unique products is a fundamental factor in the success of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, which notches up over 330,000 operator visits each year.

The winning Salone formula has been achieved and consolidated over the years with a wide range of ground-breaking and complementary input from individual companies, the world of design, architects, the media, business, the Fairgrounds and Milan itself. However we are conscious that we need to press on with innovation and identify new solutions to bolster our leadership position,” said Cosmit’s new president, Claudio Luti. “Changing market forces and the current challenging economic climate mean that we have to respond quickly to the needs of our clients – our exhibitors on one hand and our international visitors on the other. Thus, as organisers of the event, we need to be able to predict accurately and intuitively how the increasingly globalised market will pan out, so that we can be proactive both now and in the immediate future.”

A new project devoted to the complementarity of living and work spaces will be fleshed out by the French architect Jean Nouvel, who has been invited by Cosmit to come up with a totally original vision of how these two worlds interact.

Nouvel will employ 1,600 m2 of space inside the SaloneUfficio pavilions to give full rein to his concept, now in the final planning stages. His aim is to illustrate the pleasure of living in a work space, researching new materials and new technologies for creating comfortable, efficient, user and environmentally friendly solutions. A classical apartment, an industrial warehouse, a private home, a skyscraper, an industrial platform and a theoretical space will become prototypes for habitable work spaces of the future.

The exhibition layout will follow the same lines as last year’s edition, making for an ideal combination of Classical, Modern and Design. Pavilions 9-11-13-15 will play host to Euroluce / International Lighting Exhibition, featuring Italian and international lighting companies. SaloneSatellite, the platform for emerging new designers, will be situated in Pavilions 22-24, next to SaloneUfficio.
