FIRST CRESCENT HOUSE – South Africa

Minimalist and simple in design, the house just leaves you speechless...

It seems to perfectly coexist with the surrounding nature, as the barriers between the outside and the indoor areas appear to gradually vanish. Lovely architecture, lovely design and amazing views... This modern and minimalist masterpiece is located in Camps Bay, South Africa.

The residence opens fully toward the scenery, affording an amazing 270 degree view of Lions Head and the Atlantic Ocean, with a large horizontal opening into the roof cantilevering over the terrace. The interior displays an unpretentious palette of colours and materials, beige and white, refreshing furnishings, sleek and shiny surfaces, which reflect the scenery, making the house seem almost invisible. The ethereal and modern design of the terrace with the flowing staircase and perforated roof make any furnishings redundant. The bedrooms were simply arranged to look west towards the great sea views – off the linear “circulation” space which forms the rear “spine” of the house. There is a dramatic staircase in this space, with fantastic views.

The living spaces are at the Northern side of the house, providing a sense of openness. All spaces in this area have a great connection to the covered or uncovered terraces, and the interior / exterior space continuation is spectacular. The living spaces are highly transparent and fully utilize the views. The upstairs & downstairs are very similar in that each level is fully equipped and independently habitable. The ground floor differs – it has a self-contained staff suite, only two bedrooms and a water feature which runs the full length of the passage emphasizing the linearity of the house. At this level the views from the terrace are mostly restricted to the North. However, at the first floor one is elevated above the neighbouring houses and can appreciate the 360 degree view.

“First Crescent House”, in response to site and aspect, creates a spectacular space for enjoyable living – that is always in fashion.
