Blue moon diamond - the most expensive diamond ever

The blue diamond, which weighs 03.12 carats, could achieve the sale price of a whopping $ 55 million, at an auction which will take place in November...

The famous Blue Moon diamond, discovered in South Africa in January last year, will be exhibited in Hong Kong, London and New York, before Geneva, when on November 11th, finds his new owner. "Blue Moon diamond is quite simply a sensational stone, with perfect color and purity," said David Bennett, who is in charge of the jewelry section Sotheby's International Auction House.

He also said that the attention which accompanied the discovery of this stone is fully justified, as proved by its quality. Gemological Institute of America previously announced Blue Moon diamond as "eternally infallible."

Categorized as fancy, vivid blue diamond, the Blue Moon is the most precious stone in the shape of the cushion, which ever appeared in that category. Sotheby's auction house estimated that the diamond will fetch in the range of 35-55 million dollars. If it reaches the price of 55 million, it will be the most expensive diamond ever sold.

To remind you, in November 2010, 24.78-carat pink diamond, known as the Graff Pink, was sold in Geneva at a cost of 46 million dollars. The record for a blue diamond appeared in November last year, when the diamond weighs 9.75 ticket price reached 32.6 million dollars at auction in New York.
