The global design scene is welcoming a new, carefully curated meeting point: Salone Raritas, an innovative exhibition format set to debut at the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano.
This new platform is dedicated to limited editions, unique design objects, antiques, and high-end creative craftsmanship, and will be unveiled from April 21 to 26, 2026, at Fiera Milano, Rho, in Pavilions 9–11.
Conceived as an exclusive space, Salone Raritas marks the first direct connection between the world of collectible design and the professional market of architecture, interior design, hospitality, and large-scale development projects. International galleries, designers, investors, and industry professionals will come together in search of pieces that give spaces authenticity, character, and long-term value.
Design as Cultural Capital
Unlike traditional trade fair formats, Salone Raritas places strong emphasis on the cultural and narrative dimension of design. The objects on display are not merely functional or aesthetic elements, but carriers of stories, craftsmanship, and authorial vision. In contemporary luxury hotels, residential developments, and public spaces, such pieces are increasingly becoming key tools for differentiation and positioning on the global market.
Curated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial Director and Cultural Events Advisor of Salone del Mobile.Milano, the project aims to establish a new environment for presenting and acquiring unique and limited-edition design works. Salone Raritas is envisioned as a bridge between highly specialised creative production and the contemporary B2B design ecosystem.
An Architectural Setting That Supports the Narrative
The exhibition design is conceived by Formafantasma, the research-driven design studio known for its conceptual and analytical approach. Salone Raritas is imagined as an open, permeable architectural structure — a kind of “lantern” that creates rhythm, clarity, and recognisability, without overshadowing the objects it hosts.
A unified material and colour palette allows each gallery to express its own identity while contributing to a coherent and legible overall layout. The result is a refined balance between individual expression and a strong, shared curatorial narrative.
Responding to the Evolution of the Luxury Market
According to Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, Salone Raritas represents a natural evolution of the fair at a time when the professional design sector increasingly values uniqueness, quality, and long-term relevance. Authorial design, research-based projects, and antiques are now recognised as strategic assets in shaping spaces with a clear vision and identity.
With the introduction of Salone Raritas, the fair not only expands its programmatic scope but also reinforces its role as a platform that anticipates change and actively shapes new directions within the contemporary design industry.
A New Dimension of the Fair Experience
As part of the wider Salone ecosystem — which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and thousands of international journalists each year — Salone Raritas offers a more focused, curated, and immersive experience. Within this space, rarity and authenticity are no longer marginal values, but central elements of a shared contemporary design language.
In doing so, Salone del Mobile.Milano further strengthens its position as an international reference point where design is understood not only as a product, but as a cultural and economic value with lasting impact.
