The auction for the famous portrait of Marilyn Monroe "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" will be held in May.

Legendary portrait of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol will be auctioned at Christie's and is estimated to raise around $ 200 million, breaking all art records at auction.

The work, which dates back to 1964, is known as "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn", and it will be auctioned in May, while experts from Christie's auction house believe that it will be the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction.

"An incomparable example of 20th century art by the most important American artist, “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" is one of the rarest and most transcendental works that exist," Christie's said of the portrait.

The work is part of a set of four portraits of the legendary actress known as "Shot Marilyn", each of which has a different background colour and is usually presented together at exhibitions.

"The most important painting of the 20th century that will be sold at auction to this generation, Marilyn Andy Warhol, is the culmination of American pop and the promise of the American dream, which includes optimism, fragility, fame, illustration," said Alex Rother stating that this project stands next to top paintings like the Mona Lisa.
