Nestled in the untouched landscape of the American West, Dunton Hot Springs begins a new chapter following the completion of a multi-million-dollar renovation that unfolded over three carefully planned years.
This exclusive mountain retreat, set within a former 19th-century mining town in Colorado, successfully merges the authentic spirit of the Wild West with contemporary luxury—while preserving the cinematic atmosphere that has long defined its identity.
The renovation encompassed a series of historic structures, including the iconic Potter House, completing a transformation aimed at enhancing the guest experience without compromising the authenticity that distinguishes Dunton on the global luxury stage. As Kristina Rosi explains, the goal was to “bring new energy into the space while leaving its soul untouched.”
One of the most striking aspects of the project is the redesign of the legendary Saloon and dance hall. This central hub of the resort now features an open kitchen, a curated wine cellar, and thoughtfully arranged social spaces that encourage intimate and interactive dining experiences. Notably, the original bar—bearing the carved signature of Butch Cassidy—remains intact, preserving the historical character of the space.
The overall design transformation was led by the London-based studio Waldo Works, whose approach blends contemporary aesthetics with authentic materials and historical context. The result is an interior language that feels layered, warm, and deeply sophisticated—without losing the rustic authenticity that defines Dunton.
Particular attention has also been given to the individual cabins, each carefully restored or completely reimagined. Chuck’s Cabin, over 130 years old, has been transformed into a spacious family retreat with four bedrooms, hand-finished wooden interiors, and views of the Dolores River. Meanwhile, Major Ross Cabin introduces a bolder design narrative, combining Western heritage with contemporary artistic elements and sculptural lighting.
The unique Well House further elevates the resort’s exclusivity, offering private thermal springs and cold plunge pools, alongside upgraded infrastructure designed to deliver an even more refined wellness experience. Each of these enhancements has been seamlessly integrated to ensure a cohesive stay, regardless of which historic cabin guests choose.
With the completion of this renovation, Dunton Hot Springs reaffirms its position as one of the world’s most authentic luxury retreat destinations. Here, luxury is not defined by excess, but by a sense of place, history, and a profound connection to nature.
At a time when modern travelers seek authenticity as much as comfort, Dunton offers something increasingly rare—an experience that cannot be replicated.
