The Royal Barrière was built in 1913 so many of the rooms are decorated in a post-French revolution ‘Directoire’ Style.
When the hotel was elected to be part of the "Leading Hotels of the World", Kirei Studio was engaged to completely review the hotel’s image and find a warm contemporary approach that also respected its heritage.
Working with a gray and royal blue palette, Nathalie Ryan incorporated a mixture of textures including an angel hair embossing on the gray fabric/silver walls, wooden headboards with a wengué rub and a rug inspired by the sand from the Normandy beaches. This room consists of lavish dressings and a bathroom in a gray striatto palette with a dotted marble basin and a wengué design. Also, you will find great attention has been paid to the lighting in the room as well as the bathroom.
This room gives off a feeling of softness and luxury, granting full meaning to the Royal Barrière.
In the Michael Douglas Suite, the palette is based on a beige theme inspired by the sand of the beaches of Normandy, contrasting with a prune coloured fabric for the entrance of the suite, which lends a theatrical and dramatic effect.
The walls of this suite are adorned with legendary images from the filmography of actor Michael Douglas, who has stayed in this room on occasion.
In a sapphire blue and grey colour theme, this unique room instantly transports one to the luxurious world of the inimitable Elizabeth Taylor, with lavish touches such as the Baldaquin velvet bed and chandelier adorned with blue pendants that recall Taylor’s legendary sapphire earrings.
A selection of iconic portraits of the actress is placed around the room, produced on canvas in black and white to give them an authentic Old Hollywood feel.
