After obtaining a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Cornell University in 1985, Elliott Barnes began his professional career in Los Angeles offices of Arthur Erickson Architects.
In 1987 he met Andree Putman who offered him a position in her Parisian studio. Working initially as a project designer before becoming a partner, Elliott was eventually made director of the firm in 1997. He contributed to development and expansion of the office and its projects until 2003.
At the same time, he pursued an academic career teaching in renewed universities in the USA, and from 1993 to 11995 at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
In 2004, elliott barnes interiors, ebi, was founded as a means of expressing a vision of design that was uniquely his own. Since then, the services of ebi have been called upon to execute a wide range of high-end architectural and interior design projects including private residences, boutiques, hotels, spas, and institutional spaces. Working for an international clientele, the ebi portfolio stretches from France, to Germany, Austria, Russia and Japan.
Only a handful of ebi's impressive realizations include: a grand reception hall and tasting center for La Maison de Champagn Ruinart in Reims, The Ritz Carlton in Wolfsburg for Autostadt-Volkswagen, the legendary jazz club Duc de Lombards in Paris, a showcase apartment for the Mitsui Group in Japan, a private townhouse art gallery and spa in Paris, and the entry hall of Roland Berger France. Whilst varied in both appearance and purpose, each project from the ebi team is tied together by a unanimous respect for the vision of its clients, while also proposing a resolutely contemporary and innovating approach to luxury.
For Designer's Days 2014, Elliott Barnes was invited to present his latest collection of furniture produced by ECART International and Philippe HUREL at the Musee Carnavalet in Paris. The exhibition, entitled „Transpositions“, juxtaposed contemporary furniture alongside historical pieces from the museum's permanent collection.
Selected by Architectural Digest France in 2008 as one of the „30 Designers of Tomorrow“ and in 2013 as one of the „Top 100 Interior Designer in the World“, Elliott was named one of the „80 Best Decorators in the World“ in 2014 by the same magazine.
