FREIXENET - Sparkling taste of Spain

This important vineyard area is west from Barcelona. City of Sand Sadurni d Anoia is center for production of so called CAVA sparkling wines, made by traditional method of fermentation in bottle („champagne“ method). Almost every house in this city is producing wine, mostly for their own use, but the dominating manufacturer in the area is „Freixenet“.

„Freixenet“ is still family business owned by founders, Ferer family and it is considered as one of the leading manufacturers of sparkling wines in the world. Wine is traditionally made from three local grape sorts: Macabeu, Parellada and Xarel-lo.

These sorts have high level of acids, they are subtly aromatic and from them you get dry wines, very sharp and clear. Annual production is over 160 million bottles, and this popular sparkling wine is exported in more than 150 countries in the world: USA, Japan, Great Britain... Germans are biggest consumers and lovers of this sparkling wine.
