THE MOST EXPENSIVE PANCAKE

To celebrate this year’s Fat Tuesday in the most decadent way as possible, Manchester’s Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel’s Opus restaurant has come up with the most expensive pancake ever with a price tag £800 or about $1,350 attached to it.

If you go to a pancake house like IHOP, we know the list of toppings usually come with it – syrup, fruits, jam, butter, cheese and even more fruit. For this special pancake it’s all pricey seafood toppings such as Beluga caviar, Scottish lobster, Hulle Verge truffles and Scottish mussels and langoustines. The cherry on this topping is the dollop of Dom Pérignon Rosé hollandaise sauce it served with. No special ingredients for the pancake base, it’s still butter, sugar and milk.

The idea of the priciest pancake occurred to restaurant’s head chef Matthew Downes as a result of a brainstorming session during his free time to create a “posh pancake.” For all the talk and the pricey tag it takes just 20 minutes for Downes to send it from pancake pan to diner’s table. One difference from the traditional flat pancake is, the posh seafood pancake is served as a thick triangular wedge with a bright pink topping.
