At Euroluce 2025, Platek unveiled Thaïs — a lighting object that, like a piece of contemporary jewelry, merges technological precision with emotional aesthetics.
Designed by Marcello Ziliani, the lamp transcends traditional typologies: standing lamp, portable light, pendant fixture, or accent illumination — Thaïs is fluid, transformable, and conceived to adapt to life, not the other way around.
The idea was born from a desire to explore a different approach to outdoor lighting. Ziliani had long followed Platek, a brand whose understanding of light — beyond standardized industry patterns — is a rare source of inspiration. When the collaboration began, he discovered a world both familiar and new: a product-development logic he recognized, but a completely different way of thinking about communication and the role of a lighting object in space.
Thaïs was a technical challenge from the very beginning. The lamp’s head — an elegant, tapered brass disc — had to become an autonomous micro-universe: housing an LED cluster, electronics, battery, dimming controls, and even a USB port. It also needed to glide along a slender vertical rod, lock at any height, and detach entirely to transform into a pendant or a standalone lamp using a secondary short base. Initially nicknamed “a hole with light around it,” this simple, almost poetic idea became the foundation for the final form.
The technical elegance of Thaïs lies in the seamless fusion of form and function. Though heavy and made of solid brass, the head glides effortlessly thanks to Platek’s engineering expertise — which preserved a remarkably thin profile while integrating all components without compromise. Brass was envisioned as the key material from the start — not only for its noble character, but for its ability to develop a natural patina over time. In its stone-washed finish, it gains a unique identity: subtle, warm, slightly archaic, yet flawlessly contemporary.
Thaïs brings more than light — it brings atmosphere. Dynamic configurations produce an interplay of shadows and reflections, turning every setting into a sculpted mood. As a table lamp, it is portable, wireless, and dimmable, making it the perfect companion for both indoor and outdoor spaces. As a pendant, it appears almost mystical — a thin cable, a floating brass disc, and a halo of light that spreads like a soft golden aura.
Standing 38 cm high and crafted entirely from solid brass, Thaïs is a small architectural gesture — an object that unites the yachting-inspired sense of luxury, the tactility of craftsmanship, and contemporary technological precision. It is lighting that lives and evolves, just like the material it is made from.
With Thaïs, Platek and Marcello Ziliani open a new chapter in the world of outdoor lighting — a chapter where innovation is not imposed, but quietly revealed through the simplicity of a line, the ease of transformation, and the beauty of a material that ages alongside you.
