Hugh Jackman treats himself with a new penthouse

Actor Hugh Jackman spent a whopping $22 million on a new penthouse in New York's Chelsea neighbourhood.

According to reports, this beautiful penthouse was last sold in 2012 for $19.4 million. Seller Daniel Fischel, president of Chicago-based global economic consultancy Compass Lexecon and former dean of Chicago Law School, listed the apartment for sale in 2021 and was originally asking $25 million.

The 500-square-meter penthouse sits atop an eye-catching 57-unit building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Jean Nouvel. The penthouse offers a panoramic view of Manhattan and the Hudson River, stretching all the way to the Statue of Liberty.

In addition to the beautiful interiors, the apartment has about 400 square meters of open space, including a large roof terrace divided into a dining room and a lounge area. When it comes to interiors, the penthouse boasts 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, two fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, elegant terrazzo floors and a unique layout perfect for entertaining. Other facilities in the building include a swimming pool, fitness centre and screening room.

The purchase comes as Jackman and his wife, Deborra-lee Furness, recently sold their 1,100-square-foot triplex in a Richard Meier-designed tower in Manhattan for $38.9 million.

The 53-year-old, known for his roles in Wolverine and X-Men, is currently starring in The Music Man on Broadway in Manhattan.
