During the Milan Design Week, held from April 15 to 21, 2024, the Venice-based company Materica introduced its first collection of boiserie.
The Superfici Venice collection is a perfect blend of artistic craftsmanship and technology, showcased at the Design Variations event organized by Mosca & Partners. The Superfici Venice collection is the product of the creative leadership of Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda, who, in collaboration with designers of different styles and artistic visions, have created five collections. Each collection is a unique interpretation created based on the alchemical expertise of Materica, with contributions from designers such as Matteo Cibic, Serena Confalonieri, DRAW Studio, Antonio Pio Saracino, and Storage Milano.
Innovative Processes and Techniques
The boiserie panels were created through a combination of different processes and techniques: from metallization, achieved by the rapid melting and micronization of pure metals such as brass, bronze, copper, nickel-silver, aluminum, and zinc, to oxidation, laser engraving, resin coating, and natural pigmentation. These layers of materials and multiple processes reveal unexpected aesthetic effects.
Botanical Inspiration and Architectural Voluminosity
Particularly noteworthy is the Bucintoro boiserie with its botanical inspiration, which envelops the space in a golden Eden-like garden with large leaves featuring textured veins. On the other hand, the Levantine boiserie introduces a completely new process and atmosphere, created by metallizing precious Venetian fabric from Antica Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, forming a dynamic architectural volume within the architecture itself.
Fluid Boiserie
Venice, the cradle of culture and beauty that bridges tradition and modernity, serves as the cultural and artistic humus that inspires Materica. The Lagunare and Belle Nuit boiseries, where metallization along with delicate laser etchings trace graphic patterns, evoke a liquid world. The Caigo boiserie, precious as a jewel, wraps spaces with its intangible lightness thanks to the contrasts between the glossy and matte finishes of the laser-etched brass.
Debut in Product Design, A New Identity
For Materica, already a known partner in the world of luxury and architecture for creating original and precious metallized surfaces, the Superfici Venice Collection represents a debut in designing its own collection, i.e., an evolution of identity that reflects the values that have always belonged to the company.
