In the very heart of Florence, just steps away from the iconic Florence Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, a new hotel has opened its doors—one that seamlessly blends history, architecture, and contemporary luxury into a singular experience. W Florence, part of the Marriott International portfolio, emerges as a new icon of lifestyle hospitality in Tuscany.
Housed in a modernist building dating back to 1968 and originally designed by architect Lando Bartoli, the hotel has undergone a meticulous transformation that respects its historical identity while adapting it to contemporary standards. The renovation was led by Genius Loci Architettura, under the direction of architects Stefano Boninsegna and Andrea Grassi, with coordination by Nicolò Falleri and collaboration from Gabriele Tarantino.
Special attention has been given to preserving authentic materials such as serena stone and bronze, while integrating modern sustainability standards, including LEED Gold and WELL Silver certifications. This balance between past and future gives the space a distinctive character—one where history is not erased, but thoughtfully reinterpreted.
The hotel’s interior features 119 rooms, including 16 suites and an exclusive penthouse with sweeping views of the Duomo. Materials such as Carrara marble, travertine, and fine wood define the aesthetic, while sculptural three-dimensional arches subtly reference Florence’s architectural heritage—from the Palazzo Pitti to the Vasari Corridor.
The furnishing of the rooms was entrusted to Concreta, which developed custom-made elements including headboards, boiserie panels, wardrobes, and bedside tables. Each piece reflects a commitment to precision craftsmanship and premium materials, fully aligned with the project’s refined design concept.
Adding a dynamic layer to the experience is the Zefiro Rooftop—a panoramic bar overlooking Florence’s domes and rolling hills, quickly becoming a central social hub. Guests also have access to a state-of-the-art FIT zone, as well as flexible event spaces designed to meet the demands of both business and private occasions.
