The king of the Dodge Ram line-up

Do the words “luxury” and “truck” normally go together?

Most would say no. However, perhaps the naysayers should take a look at some of the more luxurious pick-ups out there, including the 2012 Dodge Ram Laramie Limited.

It's certainly not the first truck with a leather interior and a sleek exterior, but the attention to detail is pretty impressive here and surpasses most of its competitors.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift, the leather trim of the front and rear doors, the LED interior lighting (including on the door handles), a graphite glove box, the navigational technology with back-up camera, heated seats and a heated steering wheel, and signature touches like a double French-stitched leather lid on the centre storage console and the eye-pleasing foot-well lighting, make the case that this vehicle is for a high-end clientele.

But luxury is more than wrapping everything imaginable in leather. What about the engine? Safety? The driving experience? And towing capacity?

The Laramie Limited would appear to pass most of those tests, too. The vehicle - which has been available for several months now (since the second quarter of 2012) - has been rolled out to include the option of either half-ton, three-quarter-ton or one-ton towing capacity, with both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive editions available, as well as short and long wheelbase models.

The engine is up to the task of either towing a boat, carrying lumber, or passing cars on the motorway - and doing so in style. The sleek body and aluminium-rimmed wheels give this hard-working vehicle a not-trying-too-hard sophistication that many buyers want.

Indeed, there appears to be a growing market for vehicles like the 2012 Dodge Ram Laramie Limited, given a segment of the car-buying public that (rightly) feels one should be able to combine a hard-working, practical vehicle with a luxurious one. If that was the problem Dodge's designers were trying to solve in crafting the 2012 Laramie Limited, it would be fair to say, problem solved.
