The line between wearable technology and luxury jewelry is becoming increasingly blurred, and Caviar has just taken one of the most extravagant steps in that direction.
The Dubai-based brand has unveiled the Odyssey collection, an exclusive reinterpretation of Ray-Ban Wayfarer II smart glasses, embellished with 24-karat gold, silver and details inspired by ancient Greece.
The collection draws inspiration from Homer’s Odyssey and Odysseus’ legendary journey. Caviar has therefore created only 24 pieces of each version, symbolically linking the limited production run to the 24 books of Homer’s epic poem. The result is a high-tech accessory that looks more like a collectible piece of jewelry than a conventional pair of smart glasses.
Homer’s Odyssey in 24-Karat Gold
The collection consists of two models – Odyssey and Odyssey Silver. The flagship version features decorative elements hand-plated in 24-karat gold, while the slightly more understated Odyssey Silver incorporates sterling silver details.
Particularly striking are the relief engravings inspired by Ithaca, the legendary homeland of Odysseus. Decorative plates are integrated into the unmistakable Wayfarer silhouette, creating a dramatic contrast with the deep-black frame. The temples also feature black enamel star motifs symbolizing the night sky and the constellations that are said to have guided Odysseus during his long journey home.
Behind these elaborate details lies a considerable amount of craftsmanship. Each pair is assembled at the Caviar Atelier, where artisans individually shape the decorative elements, create the engravings, polish the surfaces and complete the final assembly. According to the company, this approach makes it possible to achieve a level of detail that would be virtually impossible with conventional mass production.
Even the Charging Case Gets the Luxury Treatment
Caviar did not stop with the glasses themselves. The charging case is hand-wrapped in genuine crocodile leather, while the clasp features the brand’s signature emblem. Despite its dramatic visual transformation, the case retains its original functions for charging and storing the glasses.
More importantly, the luxurious makeover has not compromised the technological capabilities of the original device. The camera, open-ear speakers, touch controls and support for an AI voice assistant remain fully functional, allowing users to take photos and record videos, listen to music, make calls and access smart features without reaching for their phone.
In this way, Caviar is attempting to unite two worlds that are increasingly beginning to overlap – discreet wearable technology and traditional luxury defined by precious metals, craftsmanship and extreme exclusivity.
A Price Worthy of Gold-Covered Glasses
Naturally, this level of customization comes with an equally extravagant price tag. The Caviar Odyssey collection starts at $6,139, with both models delivered with a personalized charging case and luxurious Caviar packaging. Production is limited to just 24 individually numbered pieces of each version.
For most people, smart glasses are a practical piece of wearable technology. For Caviar, however, they become yet another canvas for combining gold, craftsmanship, historical references and exclusivity.
And when 24-karat gold, Homer’s Odyssey and modern AI technology come together on a single pair of glasses, it is difficult to expect anything that could possibly be described as understated.
