If Louis Vuitton’s $18,500 XXL Dog Bag was a little too much even for the most dedicated luxury fashion lovers, the French maison now has a considerably more “affordable” alternative.
And by affordable, we mean $1,380 for a miniature dachshund made from faux fur.
The new Louis Vuitton Dachshund Micro Bag Crossbody Bag Charm sits somewhere between a miniature handbag, a fashion charm and an exceptionally expensive plush dog. It can hang from another bag, be worn over the shoulder or carried crossbody, while its interior provides just enough room for a few small essentials.
And yes, the internet has already noticed the obvious: this Louis Vuitton dachshund costs more than many real dogs.
The Cutest Member of the Louis Vuitton “Zoo”
Louis Vuitton has clearly developed a soft spot for animal-inspired bags in recent years. Following creations such as the Shiba Bag, Beagle Bag and enormous XXL Dog Bag, the maison has now introduced a considerably more compact version designed for dachshund lovers.
The model measures approximately 21 x 12 x 5 centimeters, making it large enough to attract immediate attention when hanging from a handbag, yet small enough to function as an unconventional fashion accessory.
A long leather strap allows it to be worn over the shoulder or across the body, while the dachshund’s body opens to reveal a tiny storage compartment. Louis Vuitton says the interior can accommodate wireless earphones and other similarly sized items.
So this is definitely not the bag for carrying your phone, wallet, sunglasses and half your life. But functionality was never really the point here.
A Dachshund Wearing 130 Years of History Over One Eye
Perhaps the most striking detail can be found on its face.
A pink Monogram Flower covers one eye, referencing one of Louis Vuitton’s historic symbols. Georges Vuitton introduced the famous Monogram in 1896, meaning the motif that now resembles an adorable eye patch carries 130 years of history behind it.
It is a typically Louis Vuitton way of playing with its own heritage: one of the luxury maison’s most recognizable motifs has been transformed into an almost cartoon-like detail on the face of a furry dachshund.
The model combines Monogram coated canvas, soft faux fur, leather details and gold-tone hardware, ensuring that despite its playful appearance, it remains unmistakably a luxury fashion accessory.
Compared to Other LV Dogs, It Is Almost a “Bargain”
A price tag of $1,380 sounds fairly extravagant for an item capable of carrying little more than a pair of earphones. Things become more interesting, however, when the new dachshund is compared with the rest of the Louis Vuitton canine family.
The Shiba Bag costs approximately $9,400, although it is a considerably larger and more functional handbag.
And then there is this year’s XXL Dog Bag.
The enormous dog-shaped bag debuted with a staggering price tag of $18,500, suddenly making the new Dachshund Micro Bag look almost reasonable.
Almost.
A Bag, a Charm or a Luxury Toy?
The fact that it is difficult to define exactly what this object is probably forms part of its appeal.
It can serve as an oversized bag charm, it can be worn as a miniature crossbody bag, and when placed on a shelf, it could easily pass as a decorative collector’s piece.
Louis Vuitton is therefore continuing its tradition of transforming everyday and unexpected objects into luxury fashion statements. In a world where the maison can offer a bicycle worth tens of thousands of dollars or a handbag shaped like an enormous dog, a $1,380 furry dachshund no longer seems particularly surprising.
Especially because it makes no attempt to take itself seriously.
It is deliberately cute, slightly absurd and recognizable enough that it is unlikely to go unnoticed, even when hanging from a handbag worth several times its price.
And customer comments perhaps summarize the entire story best: Louis Vuitton is now selling a dachshund that can cost more than a real dachshund.
Then again, this one does not need to be walked three times a day.
