Royal Caribbean’s New Star – the staggering Quantum of the Seas...
Royal Caribbean will add the new star to their impressive fleet. Unveiled at a splashy press conference in Manhattan few days ago, Quantum of the Seas the first of two 167,800-ton, 4,180-passenger next generation Royal Caribbean cruise ships to debut, will launch November 2014. This stunning cruise ship boasts 2,090 cabins including 373 virtual balconies– inside cabins featuring real-time views of the ocean and destinations. There will be a plenty of the innovative features. An indoor complex called SeaPlex will host basketball, table tennis, trapeze instruction and bumper cars. A three-story atrium-like bar and lounge area, Two70, has a 270-degree panoramic view and will host aerialists and other performances.
But, the main attraction is the North Star observation pod, inspired by London’s Millennium Eye. This jewel-shaped glass capsule can hold up to 14 people at a height of 300 feet above sea level providing 360-degree views over the sides of the ship. The skydiving attraction, called RipCord, uses a powerful wind flow to keep participants aloft while floating and spinning over an outdoor deck. “You’re not touching anything but the air,” said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.
Tickets for Quantum’s first sailing will go on sale to the public June 4, with Royal Caribbean regular cruisers getting an early shot at tickets starting May 27. Prices are not announced yet. Richard Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., said there would be no extra fees for many of the ship’s attractions, including The North Star and skydiving. Quantum of the Seas’ sister ship in the Quantum class, Anthem of the Seas, will sail spring 2015.
