The opening of the new design hotel QT Sydney marked the culmination of the painstaking renovation of two of Sydney’s most historic buildings, The State Theatre and Gowings Building. The former iconic Gowings department store and the famed State Theatre were originally opened to the public in 1929. Both the Gothic features of the Palazzo-style Gowings building and the Gothic, Venetian and Art Deco influenced State Theatre have been restored to their pre-war architecture, complete with gargoyles, which have not been seen by the public since before the war. With an eye for modern design whilst reflective of past, the 200 guest suites that make up the QT Sydney hotel have been carefully crafted within the historic Gowings and State theater buildings. With a contemporary and, at times, quirky design, all guest rooms feature creature comforts such as luxurious bedding, high-speed internet, walk-in showers and most guest suites also offer an indulgent over-sized soaking tub.
