EXQUISITE JEWELRY CREATIONS

Suzanne Belperron is the pioneer of new aesthetics when it comes to luxury jewelry...

The designer stands apart as the only women among master jewelers who have never sought recognition. Her name is not well known even today in luxury jewelry circles, despite the fact that she has influenced designs of the 20th century and discovered the cognoscenti of style. In 1987 the Duchess of Windsor auctioned jewelry and only 5 of the 16 pieces that had been designed by Belperron were actually identified. When asked why she never signs any of her work the designer replied that her style was her signature.

Suzanne Belperron was born in 1900 and started her career in designing jewelry in 1921 at the Maison Boivin in Paris. Starting with Art Deco she quickly become tired of the vogue designs and began to experiment. A stone dealer in Paris recognized her talent and she started to carve stones into more organic shapes which included wings, petals and fruit. The designer used motifs from different cultures such as Africa, Celtic and Mayan. She created a design that was called brilliant. In 1933 Elsa Schiaparelli said that they were the new theme jewels when she posed in Paris Vogue wearing creations of luxury jewelry of the very best.
