$120.000 banana sold at an auction

If you are a fruit lover, then you will certainly be surprised by how much a banana can irritate you…

So, the story goes like this: an ordinary banana from a grocery store in Miami has hit the headlines of numerous newspapers. A plain banana taped to a wall with insulating tape was sold during Art Basel Miami Beach last week. The mere fact that it was sold is stunning enough, but when the information that its price has reached $ 120,000 is added, it will leave you speechless, breathless and pulse-free for a few moments.

If you are surprised by this whole story and wonder how someone pulled it off, know that three people went shopping, prompting the artist to increase their price to $ 150,000. This "artwork", signed by Mauricio Catelan, was presented by the Perrotin Gallery, which was founded in Paris.

An even more interesting detail lies in the fact that both the artist and the gallery have "washed their hands" of the situation that will inevitably follow: since this is just a banana, it will at some point begin to decompose, just like that big amount of money given for it.

Catelan, the artist responsible for this whole story, is known worldwide for his sculptures that evoke popular culture. One of his masterpieces we talked about earlier was an 18 carat gold toilet bowl, estimated at about $ 6 million. If you don't remember, we will remind you that it was this "piece of art" that was stolen from Bleinheim Palace in England.
