The town which exists today was founded in the ninth century, after the building the first defensive fort. The first written data about this place originate from 1113.

Bojnice castle is one of the most beautiful treasures of Slovakia – the castle and its surrounding have an aura of renaissance and a certain baroque style, with accents of Neo-Goth. The castle is filled with pricey historical artifacts, and it is one of the most visited castles in Slovakia.

King Matthew Oak - According to the myth, this tree was planted by Matus Cak Trenciansky in 1301. This was the year of the death of King Ondrej III, the last of the dynasty Arpads. King Matthew (1458 - 1490) gladly stayed in the shade of oak, and organized his meetings underneath it. This tree is mentioned in official documents of this monarch. That is why it was named King Matthew Oak.

Museum of prehistoric Slovakia - Bojnice belongs to the most important places of the oldest palaeologic village in Slovakia in Central Europe. This is the richest palaeological site in the country. It is located in the provost of the cave, where a large number of objects from the everyday life of prehistoric people was found. Also, in the cave were found bones of ancient animals, such as mammoths, rhinoceroses, cave lion, and others. The museum is great and unique place to meet with the prehistory of the European continent.

Bojnice is an extraordinary city. Although it is a small village, Bojnice is extremely rich, and offers visitors much more. This is a city for enjoyment and relaxation.
