The very beginnings of creation of this city refer to the period 500 years BC, when it appeared as a fishing village. After the capital Riyadh, it is the second largest center of the country and the region in which aside from the old edifice large business centers, a number of companies in the high glass-and-concrete building are often seen. In addition, the city boasts King Fahd's Fountain, with the highest water jet in the world that reaches a staggering 312 meters.
