Red Sea is, like a source of life, given many pearls to this world, like the beautiful city of Jeddah, a magnificent place which is coming really close to all other world metropolis with its speedy development, and yet, it is still keeping safe its tradition and historical heritage.
The very beginnings of creation of this city refer to the period 500 years BC, when it appeared as a fishing village. Nearly a thousand years later, in 687 this major port was created and founded by Caliph Uthnam Ibn Afan, for the needs of believers who go on pilgrimage to the holy city of Islam believers of Mecca. Because of this, Jeddah received the name 'Gate to Mecca’. In the following centuries a shift of rulers comes along, so during XI and XII century it is ruled by caliphs when it develops and becomes a larger shopping center and a link with Asia, till the early sixteenth century, when it fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire who established and built stone walls with six city gates. During this period the most important historical sites were created. After World War I this city was returned to the hands of the Arabs, and after many wars, it becomes an integral part of Saudi Arabia.
As a coastal city, it has a true tropical climate, which is again better than the continental part of the country, and it has an access to the sea, which made it possible for the city of Jeddah to eventually become a strong commercial and financial center. After the capital Riyadh, it is the second largest center of the country and the region in which aside from the old edifice large business centers, a number of companies in the high glass-and-concrete building are often seen. In addition, the city boasts King Fahd's Fountain, with the highest water jet in the world that reaches a staggering 312 meters. There is a large multi-storey King which is one of the most modern buildings with the largest LED screen in the world. Aside from the modern part of the city, as we previously mentioned, this city has one other, traditional face, in which old Arabian architecture dominates, with many mosques. In this area, which dates back from the VII century, the largest pleasure, aside from those who enjoy fine arts, shopping aficionados will also find.
