THE AMSTERDAM CASTLE FOR SALE

It is a 36,000 square feet private residence and B&B, having served the National Guard decades ago...

Having already been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Amsterdam Castle was built in 1894 by the state of New York.

Winner of the 2012 Excellence in Historic Preservation award, it is actually part of the total 100 National Guard armories the state of New York has built. Fifty of them are still being used by the respective state institution, while the others include a concert hall – the Albany, an art gallery – Manhattan East Side and a military museum – the Saratoga.

It was decommissioned 17 years ago, in 1995, yet it is the only armory building to have been converted to residential purposes. It features two guest wings which provide lavish breakfast and bed accommodation. A total of 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms are provided.

Located on a 1 acre lot, just 30 miles away from Albany and 3 hours from New York City, it provides access to Amtrak’s Amsterdam Station and to Albany International Airport. Furthermore, just 35 minutes away by car, the superb Saratoga Springs and Cooperstown are found. Close nearby are also the Great Sacadanga Lake, skiing resorts, the Howe Caverns and Adirondack Mountains.

The Amsterdam Castle is currently listed at $1,250,000, waiting for a new owner.
