For Chanel brand, 2003 was everything but an ordinary year…
They have finally debuted on Baselword, 16 years after they’ve presented their first watch, Premiere. Also, Chanel J12 has been presented that year, in a new white version, made of hi-tech ceramics. With a new color, this watch gained a new spirit, which was ideally combined with its traditional appearance.
J12 was the first automatic watch created by the brand, as well as a fascinating art piece. Seven years of research and development have contributed to its beauty, whose large part lies in its ceramic case. Made in their workshop, the material used for the case can be described as lighter and stronger than steel and gold, resistant to thermal and chemical shocks, and extremely comfortable to wear.
Still, this wasn’t the only novelty. J12 model was also the first Chanel watch designed with surprising masculine details. In the opinion of Jacques Helleu, this model had to be timeless, indestructible and connected to the world of cars.
In October, Chanel gave the most exciting improvement to its J12 model. Called Chanel J12 XS, this new tiny model with the diameter of only 19 mm still has the same case made of black or white ceramics, but now, it has feminine vibes written all over. It can be worn in four different ways: the first two have thin leather straps which are worn over larger cuffs made of the same material. The third one is connected to a pair of gloves, while the fourth is based on a long strap made of leather, which is worn in more rows and looks irresistibly daring.
The best French craftsmen have made the straps and this model became even more attractive with the addition of six styles with glitter, which are hand sewn, so they would remind us of exotic pitons, alligators and sharks. For those who have specific tastes, there are four unique variations of this model. One is presented with a bulky cuff, while two other come with smaller, firm straps. All three variations are decorated with diamonds and white gold details. In the end, there is a ring which gives you the correct time, while being decorated with top notch diamonds on it white gold crown.
This watch had brought new joy and spirit into the traditional watchmaking industry. Because of its traditional appearance, this model will be eternally beautiful and attractive, but always different from all the others.
