The Louis Vuitton Escales Autour du Monde collection continues to push the boundaries of haute horlogerie, transforming each timepiece into a story inspired by a remarkable place in the world.
Following creations inspired by the Amazon rainforest and Paris, the latest piece takes collectors to the Far East through the spectacular Escale au Mont Fuji pocket watch. This unique masterpiece depicts the legendary Mount Fuji at dawn, rendered in delicate pastel tones that evoke the atmosphere of a serene Japanese spring morning. The watch was developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Geneva, where high watchmaking, artistic craftsmanship, and the maison’s heritage of travel converge.
The dial of the Escale au Mont Fuji functions like a miniature mechanical theatre. Four automata mechanisms animate the scene, transforming the watch into a dynamic storytelling object. At the top of the dial, a gold compass rose rotates in a sky painted with pink and blue hues and decorated with iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram flowers. On the surface of the water, a wooden fishing boat slowly glides while miniature trunks open and close, revealing floral motifs.
Standing at the bow is the mythical Japanese god of fortune Ebisu, holding a fishing rod and a tai fish, a traditional symbol of prosperity. The scene is further enhanced by sakura blossoms crafted from yellow gold and enamel, gently moving to create a sense of life and motion.
At the heart of the watch lies the hand-wound LFT AU14.03 calibre, an exceptionally complex movement composed of 561 finely crafted components. The mechanism includes a minute repeater that chimes the hours, quarters, and minutes, as well as a tourbillon designed to enhance timekeeping precision.
The finishing details demonstrate the pinnacle of traditional watchmaking: 700 hand-finished internal angles, mirror-polished components, heat-blued hands, and classic Geneva stripes that capture and reflect light. Even a single concave gear required three weeks of meticulous handwork.
The dial’s aesthetics are further enriched through Métiers d’Art techniques, where engraving and miniature sculpture play a central role. Every detail—from the fisherman’s facial expression to the delicate fishing net on the boat—has been engraved by hand using specialized tools crafted by the maison’s master engraver.
Along the sides of the case appears the decorative Seigaiha wave pattern, a traditional Japanese motif subtly integrated with Louis Vuitton Monogram flowers, linking Japanese symbolism with the brand’s iconic identity. The engraving process alone required more than 160 hours of work.
One of the most impressive aspects of this timepiece is the complex enamel artistry. The dial incorporates several traditional techniques, including Grand Feu enamel, champlevé, paillonné, and miniature enamel painting.
To recreate the sunrise above Mount Fuji, artisans used 33 different pastel shades, and each enamel layer had to be fired in the kiln—40 times in total—with the constant risk that the work could crack and require starting over. The water on the dial achieves its shimmering effect thanks to the paillonné enamel technique, which incorporates delicate silver leaf particles.
Mount Fuji itself is depicted through subtle color gradients, while miniature houses, trees, and misty reflections add depth and a three-dimensional quality to the composition.
In keeping with the maison’s travel heritage, the watch is accompanied by a series of luxurious accessories. It is delivered with a handcrafted white gold chain and a specially designed trunk created at the brand’s historic workshop in Asnières.
A unique bag inspired by early automotive medical bags is also included for storing the watch. Crafted from light blue leather specially dyed to match the pastel tones of the dial, it extends the aesthetic narrative of the timepiece.
The Escale au Mont Fuji required more than 1,000 hours of craftsmanship, merging technical perfection with artistic storytelling. The creation demonstrates how contemporary haute horlogerie increasingly exists at the intersection of mechanics, culture, and emotion.
Through this extraordinary piece, Louis Vuitton once again shows that luxury is not merely an object—it is an experience and a story shaped by travel, art, and limitless human creativity.
