Van Cleef & Arpels – poetry of time

Van Cleef & Arpels added a new chapter to their poetry of time, by re-creating the eternal light of nature in their new Lady Arpels Ronde des Papillons watch, which was presented at this year's SIHH fair...

This new watch with a poetic complication connects three colorful butterflies during the beautiful game of chase. Their dance among the clouds dictates the tempo minutes while the hours are represented by swallow’s year, which is a symbol of youth and awakening. With its winged ballet, the brand once again presented us with the strength and vitality of nature and the passage of time, with the help of unique inherent poetry.

Beneath the apparent delicacy of the dials, retrograde mechanism of hours, minutes and variable speed on-demand entertainment, was developed exclusively for this project and we can say that it is very sophisticated. Virtuoso watchmaking skills have been applied to the ballet of butterflies that are moving at different speeds. In the cycle that lasts an hour they speed up and slow down, thanks to the elliptic point inside the mechanism.

The soft color of the sky that adorns the back of the dial is created in the form mother-of-pearl detail with hand-painted bluish hues. Floating at different heights, mother-of-pearl clouds contain a subtle palette of gray. Graceful creatures that adorn this watch are presented as a contrast to the clouds.

Swallow is engraved white gold and clothed in black, white, and blue, and butterflies, just like the real nature, are joyful and charming gradation of colors - from white to pink, orange and yellow to red to yellow.
