On the shores of Georgian Bay, a residence emerges that redefines the concept of the family home. Designed by &Pierre, this project offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional cottage—transformed into a space conceived to endure for generations.

Spanning approximately 350 square meters, the house replaces an older family structure, guided by a clear vision of the future: to remain equally functional today and decades from now. Rooted in principles of long-term sustainability and the “aging in place” philosophy, it seamlessly blends architectural precision with everyday comfort.

Positioned directly along the waterfront, the home draws inspiration from its natural surroundings. Sand, water, and stone become defining elements, while expansive glass surfaces open the interior to the landscape, allowing light to shape the atmosphere throughout the day. The connection between indoors and outdoors is not merely visual—it is fundamental.

The material palette has been carefully curated to reinforce this relationship. White oak, locally sourced limestone, plaster, and linen create a calm, neutral foundation, while soft, warm tones introduce a sense of intimacy. Subtle coastal hues reflect the changing environment, and natural textures bring depth and tactility to the space.

Organized across three levels, the home enables intuitive movement and a flexible lifestyle. Each area is designed to balance functionality with aesthetic clarity, making it equally suited for everyday living and for hosting family and friends.

As noted by Andrea Pierre, founder of the studio, the goal was to preserve the spirit of the original house while creating something new—timeless, refined, and deeply connected to its setting.

The project was realized in collaboration with Diamond Schmitt Architects and Gio Tassone Architects, while construction was carried out by Valley View Construction. Distinctive character is further introduced through custom lighting by Sara Woodby Hand and Concord Lighting, as well as bespoke interior elements developed with Riverside Custom Cabinetry.

Georgian Bay Beach House is more than an architectural project—it is a statement of how contemporary design can be at once sophisticated, sustainable, and deeply rooted in its environment.
