Back in 1934, renowned French 20th-century architect and designer Charlotte Perriand designed La Maison au Bord de l’Eau - a two-bedroom beach house.
Although won second prize in the progressive magazine L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, this stunning beach house concept with a view to bring forward an economical and eco-friendly holiday home never saw the light of day. Until now! Louis Vuitton house created a replica for Miami Art Week, in partnership with Perriand’s daughter Pernette Perriand-Barsac.
The house, fabricated from iroko and okoume hardwoods with a stainless steel frame, was created just outside Milan and then shipped to Miami. It is furnished, as Charlotte Perriand wished, with pieces she designed between 1929 and 1942 of which no original examples remain, only the drawings and photos in the archive. Each piece of furniture in the house is individually numbered and signed.
This is not the first time Louis Vuitton has looked to Perriand for inspiration. Also, she was the inspiration for brand’s Icones Summer 2014 collection.
