Bugatti Chiron Profilee – the most expensive car sold at auction

With the Chiron, W16 Mistral and Bolide all sold out, the Chrion Profilée auction represented the last chance to purchase a new Bugatti car powered by the legendary W16 engine, direct from the Atelier in Molsheim…

With such an important piece of history on offer, the bidding was fierce, both in person and over the phone. Hendrik Malinowski, managing director of Bugatti Automobiles, said: “With only one Chiron Profilee model to be built, it was very important to us to offer the opportunity to buy it to as many people as possible, and we were very excited by the enthusiasm of the global automotive industry community. The participants of the auction clearly recognized the importance and value of the Chiron Profilee, which proved to us with an intense rivalry and the price of 9,727,500 euros, which breaks all records".

Markus Görig, RM Sotheby's car specialist, said: “It was a great honor for us to host such a special lot in collaboration with the Bugatti brand. The sale of the Chiron Profilee was the most anticipated moment of the auction, with huge global interest in the car. With so many people bidding live and over the phone, we felt like we were really writing new pages in the automotive history books. Finally, we can only congratulate the new owner of the Chiron Profilee on a truly special purchase”.

The car's name, Profilee, was inspired by one of Jean Bugatti's first creations – the Type 46 model known as the Surprofilee, with its sleek silhouette and elegant tail. Just as that model is an important part of Bugatti history, the Chiron Profilee has now written its own chapter in the 114-year-old Bugatti legacy.

Just like the Chiron Pur Sport, the Chiron Profilee model uses a 1,500 PS powertrain and a quad-turbo V8 engine, but is absolutely unique when it comes to its design and details. Its fixed rear wing is integrated into the car's body, giving it exceptional stability at high speeds, while also playing a crucial role in cooling the W16 engine. The Profilee is also the first Chiron to be sold with woven leather interior and Argent Atlantique exterior. It is absolutely unique; it has never been - nor will it be - reused for any Chiron model. The horseshoe-style wheels were inspired by the famous Bugatti grille, and were designed and manufactured specifically for this model.
