Maintaining the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, worth $3 million, is so costly that it's cheaper to buy an apartment in the heart of Manhattan than to service the car for three years...
When high-income individuals pay millions of dollars to purchase a limited-production hypercar, they are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain their prized possessions.
While service costs for all hypercars are outrageously high, the numbers are simply staggering for some. According to a Bloomberg report, affluent buyers of the $3 million-plus Aston Martin Valkyrie might have to shell out nearly $450,000 for service costs over three years of ownership. Just to put that into context, with that amount of money, you could buy a 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a Taycan and still have enough cash left for track days.
Valkyrie owners who opt not to service their hypercars through the British luxury car manufacturer risk losing the warranty cover, which could end up being much more expensive if something goes wrong. However, the marque also offers a slightly cheaper service plan, which will reduce costs to $340,000 over the same three-year period, according to Bloomberg.
The exceptionally high maintenance costs are attributed to a team of motorsport engineers who maintain the hypercar, according to an Aston Martin spokesperson. "We offer a range of highly specialized service plans for the car, aligned with the bespoke requirements and specific usage of our Valkyrie customers," the spokesperson said.
In comparison, the maintenance costs for a Bugatti Veyron over four years amount to about $170,000. A four-year extended warranty for the French hypercar, which covers everything except tires, is priced at close to $200,000.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie is a limited-production, track-focused hybrid hypercar developed in collaboration with Red Bull Racing Advanced Technologies and several other companies. Powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter Aston Martin-Cosworth engine, assisted by a 160hp electric motor, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.
The hypercar is limited to 150 coupes, 85 open-top Spider versions, and 40 track-only AMR Pro variants. According to Aston Martin, the company has delivered 67 Valkyries to customers in the first three quarters of 2023.
