The first ever BMW i4.

Enjoying driving with zero emissions, top quality without compromise and individual options aimed at fulfilling all the wishes of the customer for the first time are in a mid-range vehicle - the first ever BMW i4. This model is a combination of fantastic sporty energy unique to BMW and a range that confidently brings peace on long journeys with all the elegance of design, spaciousness and practicality of the four-door Gran Coupé model.

The BMW i4 will appear in November 2021 in two model variants: BMW i4 M50 (combined power consumption: 24–19kWh / 100 km according to the WLTP cycle; CO2 emissions of 0 g / km) - the first car with fully electric performance from BMW M GmbH, with 400kW / 544 hp, all-wheel drive and a range of up to 510 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle; and the BMW i4 eDrive40 (combined power consumption: 20–16 kWh / 100km according to the WLTP cycle; CO2 emissions of 0g / km) with 250kW / 340 hp, classic rear-wheel drive and a range of up to 590 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.

The vehicle architecture on which the BMW i4 is based from the outset is designed for a fully electric drivetrain, has a long wheelbase and wide tread, maximum reduced weight and at the same time an extremely rigid body structure. Model-specific torsion springs, aluminum panels and front axle construction have a fixed connection to the high-voltage battery housing. The degree of aerodynamics is optimized and amounts to 0.24 Cd.

The all-new chassis design and technology are adapted to the concept of a vehicle that uses a front axle with double articulated springs and a rear multilink axle. Self-adjusting shock absorbers and air suspension of the rear axle are an integral part of the standard equipment package. The "Near actuator" wheel restraint restriction and control system (also combined for the first time with all-wheel drive) provides incredible grip and steering stability in extremely dynamic driving maneuvers. The BMW i4 M50 also brings a model-specific adaptive M suspension system, variable sports steering, M Sport braking system and optional M alloy wheels (up to 20 inches).

The BMW i4 M50 arrives with the Sport Boost system for ultra-dynamic power delivery from two electric motors with the highest power output and maximum torque of 795 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is reached in 3.9 seconds. The BMW i4 eDrive 40 with a maximum torque of 430 Nm accelerates from 0–100km / h in 5.7 seconds.

The slim high-voltage battery is specifically designed for the BMW i4 and is housed low in the vehicle's chassis with an extremely low cell height of just 110 millimeters. The vehicle's center of gravity is up to 53 millimeters lower than in the BMW 3 Series. Gross energy content is: 83.9 kWh. An adaptive or individually adjustable braking energy recovery system increases efficiency and provides a feeling of driving over one pedal with a cruising function and needs that depend on the traffic situation.

The combined charging unit allows the use of DC stations for fast charging of output power up to 200 kW. The range can be increased by a full 164 kilometers on the BMW i4 eDrive40 and 140 kilometers on the BMW i4 M50 within 10 minutes at charging stations in this category.

The front end is designed to look like it's uninterrupted with a "tucked in" and striking BMW kidney-shaped radiator grille and a discreetly integrated camera, ultrasonic and radar sensors. It has slim headlights, optionally with BMW laser light and BMW iBlue accents.

The interior of the vehicle is filled with luxury, it has acoustic protection, the option of heating before departure and activation of the prerequisites, sports seats and a sports steering wheel in the standard equipment package. The boot capacity is 470 liters and can be expanded to a maximum of 1,290 liters. Large tailgates come standard with an electric opening and closing mechanism.

The first ever BMW i4 offers a wide range of individualization options and possibilities, unique to BMW premium models. Driving enjoyment and comfort enhanced with options such as heating and ventilation, Vernasca leather upholstery and BMW Individual leather surface and trim options, Sensatec leather upholstered instrument panel, M Sport Pro package, ambient lighting, Harman Kardon Surround Sound audio system and large glass movable panorama roof .

The premiere of the new generation BMW iDrive command system focuses on the functionality of the touch screen and the new BMW curved display and the enhanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant system. The 12.3-inch info display and 14.9-inch control screen are grouped and directed towards the driver. Their advanced graphics and powerful software are based on the BMW 8 operating system.

This model has over 40 driver assistance systems - Front-collision warning, Speed Limit Info and Lane Departure Warning are standard, as well as optional active cruise control (Active Cruise Control) with automatic speed limitation assistance (Speed Limit Assist), route guidance monitoring function and (in Germany) reaction to traffic light. A Driving Assistant Professional with Steering and Lane Control Assistant is also available, as well as a reversing camera as part of the standard equipment package. The Park Assistant Plus system has features that include Surround View and Remote 3D View.

Vehicle production takes place at the BMW AG plant in Munich, where there is an absolute focus on sustainability, responsible use of resources through the value chain and maximum CO2 reduction throughout the product life cycle. For example, battery cells are produced using 100 percent green energy. The specific design principle for electric motors makes it possible to avoid the need for rare natural metals.
