Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has announced that he is putting his personal Ferrari Enzo up for sale as part of a car auction to be held in Monaco on June 8.
With only 400 units produced between 2002 and 2004, the Ferrari Enzo supercar is one of the rarest models introduced by the Italian company in the modern era. This beautifully preserved example can easily fetch around $4 million on the current market; however, Alonso's Ferrari Enzo is expected to fetch over $5.5 million at an upcoming auction.
Obviously, the ownership of an F1 veteran is one of the reasons why it is expected to fetch more than other examples of supercars, however, there are other factors that make this Ferrari Enzo truly exceptional.
According to the auctioneer, Alonso owns a Ferrari Enzo with the first body, which is known as Scocca n.1, and there is a Ferrari Classiche certificate to prove it. The fact that it is the first example of one of the most famous cars ever made makes it highly desirable among collectors. What's more, the supercar finished in the classic Rosso Corsa livery has just 2,983 miles on the odometer, meaning it has barely been used. However, the list does not say when or how the Formula One legend bought the supercar.
"I hope the new owner of this unique car will enjoy it very much," Alonso posted on Instagram.
The Ferrari Enzo was introduced as the successor to the F50. Named after the company's founder, Enzo Ferrari, this supercar was developed using technology borrowed from Formula 1, including a carbon fibre body, F1-style automated manual transmission and carbon ceramic brakes. It comes with a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 engine that develops 651 hp, which was enough to accelerate the supercar from 0-100 km/h in just 3.15 seconds.
Interestingly, Alonso is not the only F1 racer to own an Enzo. Ferrari gave Michael Schumacher a custom copy.
