Ernest Hemingway's pocket watch for sale

The gold pocket watch once owned by the famous writer Ernest Hemingway is about to be auctioned…

The model with a diameter of 53mm, has a hand-winding chronograph mechanism that is the work of L. Leroy & Cie. The clock was gifted to Hemingway by Charles Ritz, son of the founder of the Ritz Hotel, Caesar Ritz. Charles Ritz shared a strong friendship with Hemingway, and gave him the watch as a wedding gift at his fourth and last wedding in Cuba, 1946. “Hemingway was a fan of horse riding, and there is no doubt that he used this watch when watching horse racing. When you look at the back of the watch, you see that it has scratches and wear. That means it's definitely been used, not something that just stood in the drawer for decades, "said Rebeca Ross, a watch specialist at Christie's Auction House.

The watch was returned to Ritz by Mary Welsh when Hemingway passed away in 1961. Charles Ritz donated this watch to one of his close friends, American entrepreneur, editor and philanthropist, Henry Dorman. The watch is presented in a gold frame, with a burgundy plush display, along with another watch - the Vacheron Constantin 18-karat gold pocket watch, which was created in 1914.

Both watches are believed to reach prices between $ 15,000 and $ 25,000.
