After celebrating European artistry, Chinese Bian-Lan opera, and the Japanese code of Bushido, Louis Vuitton launches a new horological odyssey — this time inspired by the cosmos.
Introducing the Tambour Taiko Galactique, a watch that transcends traditional haute horlogerie and becomes galactic poetry on the wrist. This breathtaking creation unites a minute repeater with cathedral gongs, a complex automaton mechanism, and an artistic dial crafted entirely by hand. This isn’t just a timepiece — it’s an interstellar theatrical experience.
Powered by the hand-assembled caliber LFT AU14.02, produced in the La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton workshop, the watch houses 459 components, offers 100 hours of power reserve, and animates seven mechanical elements on the dial. With the press of a side slider, the watch becomes a stage: an astronaut floats toward the Moon, solar panels unfold, stars shimmer, and the Sun rotates — all in a synchronized ballet of precision and poetry.
Visually, the watch is mesmerizing. The complex depiction of Earth, Moon, and Sun is realized through four enameling techniques: paillonné, cloisonné, miniature, and grisaille. The Moon is rendered with remarkable attention to detail using white enamel over black, evoking light and shadow, while the Earth is painted in seven vibrant colors, capturing continents, oceans, and swirling clouds.
A hand-carved astronaut floats weightlessly across the dial, his suit adorned with hand-painted Monogram flowers and a saffron-colored flag bearing the LV logo. A satellite drifts beside him, set against a cosmic backdrop that transitions from deep blue to nearly black — evoking the infinite vastness of space.
The 46.7mm case combines white gold and titanium, with polished and sandblasted finishes. The crown is placed unconventionally at 12 o’clock, while the side slider for the minute repeater is set with blue sapphires and topazes. The transparent sapphire caseback reveals the breathtaking architecture of the movement.
A blue rubber strap, embossed with Louis Vuitton motifs, is designed to follow the case’s unique geometry, finished with a white gold double-folding clasp.
