John Mayer, Michael Jordan, and Sam Altman are just some of the prominent names who have recognized the exceptional appeal of Vanguart, a young Swiss watchmaking brand whose futuristic timepieces are pushing the boundaries of traditional haute horlogerie.

In the world of luxury watches, where prestige is often measured in centuries of tradition, a new generation of independent manufacturers is emerging with the ambition to redefine the rules of haute horlogerie.

Among them, Vanguart occupies a particularly intriguing position. Founded in Switzerland in 2018, the brand has managed to attract the attention of discerning collectors, business leaders, and celebrities in less than a decade.

Its philosophy is built around the fusion of traditional watchmaking craftsmanship, revolutionary design, and exceptional technical precision. The result is a collection of timepieces that resemble miniature futuristic works of art more than conventional instruments for telling time.

From the Black Hole to the Revolutionary Orb

Based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, one of the historic centers of global watchmaking, Vanguart made its debut in 2019 with the introduction of the Black Hole.

This unconventional timepiece immediately attracted attention with its vortex-inspired time display, featuring three rotating discs and a centrally positioned tourbillon.

Its architecture, reminiscent of spacecraft and science-fiction visions of the future, established the foundations of the brand's distinctive identity.

However, the true demonstration of Vanguart's ambitions arrived with the Orb, a timepiece developed over three years.

It became the first tourbillon watch equipped with a selector allowing the wearer to switch between manual and automatic winding modes, representing a significant technical achievement in haute horlogerie.

Thanks to its innovative construction, exceptional ergonomics, and unconventional appearance, the Orb has developed a reputation among collectors as a watch designed for some of the world's most successful business figures.

Yoni Ben-Yehuda, head of watches at Material Good, the brand's exclusive North American distributor, emphasizes that Vanguart successfully combines traditional techniques with futuristic design.

According to Ben-Yehuda, the manufacturer's watches feature exceptional finishing and some of the most ergonomic solutions in contemporary watchmaking.

Comfort is one of the company's defining priorities, with years devoted to developing cases and straps that conform naturally to the wrist.

Four Visionaries Behind a New Name in Haute Horlogerie

Vanguart was established by four co-founders whose combined expertise spans watchmaking, engineering, and industrial design.

CEO Axel Leuenberger and Technical Director Jeremy Frelechox previously gained experience at the prestigious Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi, renowned for developing exceptionally complex mechanical movements.

Creative Director Thierry Fischer introduced the brand's distinctive visual language, while company President Mehmet Koruturk oversees its strategic development.

Their shared vision is based on a simple yet ambitious idea: respect the heritage of Swiss watchmaking without allowing tradition to restrict creativity.

As Koruturk explains, any new luxury watch manufacturer entering the market today must justify its existence.

Vanguart's advantage lies in the fact that its founders possess a profound understanding of traditional haute horlogerie while remaining free from historical conventions dictating how their watches should look.

This independence allows the company to explore unconventional mechanical solutions and striking design concepts without compromising the precision and craftsmanship expected at the highest levels of Swiss watchmaking.

Colored Ceramics and Limited Editions for the Most Discerning Collectors

During 2026, Vanguart further expanded its portfolio with the introduction of the Orb Pink Ceramic Titanium and Orb Blue Ceramic Rose Gold, each produced in a strictly limited edition of just 25 pieces.

These watches represent a striking combination of sophisticated technology and contemporary aesthetics, featuring cases measuring 41 millimeters in diameter and only 10.5 millimeters thick.

Particular attention was devoted to developing ceramic components in delicate shades of pink and blue.

The material development process took an entire year, with the objective of achieving intense, stable colors alongside exceptional scratch resistance.

The ceramic elements are integrated into the cases' complex construction, while curved titanium surfaces with PVD coatings are precisely matched to the ceramic colors.

To achieve the desired visual effect, Vanguart also employed a high-precision microscopic paint application technique more commonly associated with the automotive industry.

The result is a collection of watches that appear technically complex, distinctly modern, and exceptionally elegant at the same time.

According to Creative Director Thierry Fischer, the development of these new ceramic models marks the beginning of a new chapter for the company, allowing it to reach a broader audience without abandoning the principles upon which it was founded.

Just 100 Watches a Year and a Clientele That Refuses to Compromise

Vanguart's exclusivity is not based solely on its design and technical innovations, but also on its exceptionally limited production.

The company manufactures approximately 100 watches annually, making its creations particularly desirable among collectors seeking rare and unconventional examples of contemporary watchmaking.

Its notable owners include musician John Mayer, basketball legend Michael Jordan, and technology entrepreneur Sam Altman.

Another particularly interesting collector is David J. Adelman, founder and CEO of Darco Capital and co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils sports franchises.

Adelman, known for his appreciation of independent watchmakers such as F.P. Journe, De Bethune, and Richard Mille, regularly wears his titanium Orb, alternating between blue and white straps depending on the occasion.

He explains that he was attracted by the originality of the design, the story behind the brand, and the fact that Vanguart has not yet become a widely recognized name.

For Adelman, the direct relationship with the people behind the company adds another layer of value.

At one event, he had the opportunity to speak with Mehmet Koruturk, who personally thanked him for supporting the brand.

This kind of personal connection between manufacturers and collectors is becoming increasingly rare in a luxury industry dominated by large international groups.

For Vanguart, however, it represents one of the company's most significant advantages.

An Exclusive OpenAI Series and Collaborations Beyond Watchmaking

One of Vanguart's most intriguing projects of 2026 originated with Sam Altman, who commissioned seven personalized Orb Flying Tourbillon watches for selected members of OpenAI.

Known as the Orb OpenAI Series, this exclusive collection was produced in titanium cases and represents a striking example of the relationship between contemporary technology and traditional watchmaking craftsmanship.

The collaboration also reflects Vanguart's growing appeal among individuals working at the forefront of innovation, where unconventional thinking and technical excellence are particularly valued.

Beyond the world of luxury watches, Vanguart is carefully developing its presence through partnerships with prominent figures and organizations in sports, music, and culture.

Among the brand's friends is tennis player Elena Rybakina, while the company has also collaborated with Warner Music during the BRIT Awards.

Vanguart has additionally served as the official timekeeping partner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or football awards and supported the British Museum Ball.

This approach is far from accidental.

Koruturk explains that the company is particularly inspired by the relationship between individual excellence and collective achievement.

Just as elite athletes depend on coaches and support teams, and musicians rely on producers and creative collaborators, every Vanguart watch is the result of a collective effort involving designers, engineers, and master watchmakers.

This philosophy extends beyond marketing partnerships, reflecting the collaborative nature of the company's own creative process.

The Future of Swiss Watchmaking Has a New Name

With a new Swiss manufacture in development and its first decade of operations approaching, Vanguart is entering a particularly exciting phase of growth.

Its ability to attract some of the world's most influential collectors while maintaining independence, limited production, and a distinctive creative identity demonstrates that there is still considerable room for new ideas in an industry shaped by centuries of tradition.

While established manufacturers often build their value around historical heritage, Vanguart proves that the future of luxury watchmaking also belongs to those bold enough to create their own rules.

The brand's combination of unconventional aesthetics, sophisticated mechanical engineering, and personal relationships with collectors offers a compelling alternative to more traditional interpretations of Swiss luxury.

Its timepieces are not simply designed to measure time. They are intended to challenge expectations, celebrate technical ingenuity, and express an entirely individual vision of haute horlogerie.

And according to Mehmet Koruturk, this is only the beginning.

Vanguart remains a remarkably young brand, and it is only starting to reveal what its philosophy can truly achieve.
